UK Passport Fees to Increase from April 2025

24th March 2025

UK passport applications

The Home Office and HM Passport Office have announced increases to passport application fees, effective 10th April 2025. The changes, subject to parliamentary approval, will affect all application types across standard, premium, and overseas services.

New Fee Structure

UK-Based Applications:

Application Type Adult (Old) Adult (New) Child (Old) Child (New)
Standard online £88.50 £94.50 £57.50 £61.50
Postal £100 £107 £69 £74
Premium (1-day) £207.50 £222 £176.50 £189

Overseas Applications:

Application Type Adult (Old) Adult (New) Child (Old) Child (New)
Standard online £101 £108 £65.50 £70
Standard paper £112.50 £120.50 £77 £82.50

Rationale for Fee Increases

The Home Office states that the revised fees will help move towards a self-funding passport system, reducing reliance on general taxation. The government maintains it does not profit from passport applications, with fees covering processing costs, overseas consular support for lost or stolen passports, and border control operations for British citizens.

Processing Times Remain Strong

The Home Office reports that in 2024, 99.7% of standard UK applications were processed within three weeks when no additional information was required. Applicants are advised to apply well in advance of planned travel to avoid delays.

Paramount Visas' Guidance

While passport renewals are typically straightforward, timing is critical when coordinating international travel plans. If you're managing complex travel schedules involving visa applications alongside passport renewals, early planning is essential to avoid disruptions.

For clients with upcoming travel requiring both passport renewal and visa applications, we recommend allowing at least 6-8 weeks before departure to accommodate potential processing delays.
